U-15’s can be very proud of their achievements this year despite losing out in the final
Carnaross 1-9 Oldcastle 1-7
The fairytale end was not to be but the Under 15’s didn’t go down without a fight in the U-15 FL Div 6 Final played in Trim (Sunday, 8 Nov.2015) and can be very proud of their achievements this year.
The rain cleared just before the start but the strong wind was still present and was in Carnaross’s favour in the first half. Colin Hawdon opened the scoring with a point after 4 minutes. Oran Mulvany followed up with another before Carnaross finally opened their account on 12th minutes. Carnaross then had a goal chance which just went wide. Kicking out the ball was hard against such a strong wind and Carnaross won the kick out and converted their second point. Carnaross were now starting to get on top and would have more scores if it wasn’t for great defending from Joseph Lynch. Colin Hawdon was dropping deeper into his own half back line to gain possession and looked dangerous every time he had the ball. Carnaross scored 3 unanswered points before Dylan Garrigan got on the score sheet on the 22nd minute. Carnaross grabbed another to leave the half time score Oldcastle 0-3 Carnaross 0-6.
The second half started the same as the first with Colin Hawdon pointing on the 4th minute. The rain then poured down with roars from the big crowd as umbrellas went flying through the air! James McCluskey scored another point before a long ball into the penalty area resulted in Oran Mulvany been pulled to the ground in the 9th minute. Dylan Garrigan stepped up and for the second time in as many games in finished to the net from the spot. Oldcastle were now 2 points up and the next score was going to be vital. Carnaross won the kick out and went on the attack and within a minute they took the lead with a well taken goal. Dylan Garrigan grabbed another point to give Oldcastle some hope but at the other end Oldcastle were under pressure and had to call on Jack McDonnell Fox to make a number of saves. Carnaross added a further brace which left Oldcastle chasing the game.
A number of chances went a begging for Oldcastle as the weather was making it difficult to gain possession and a number of passes failed to go to the intended player. This was a cracking game of football, with end to end play and excellent skill and commitment from both sides despite the bad and unpleasant weather. As the final whistle blew there was heart break for Oldcastle as Carnaross celebrated a well earned 2 point victory.
