U-12’s bowed out after a good run in the Spring FL

Nobber 0-16 Oldcastle 0-8

The U-12s bowed out of the Spring League at semi-final level this evening (21 May 2016) in Millbrook. Facing a determined and very strong Nobber team, Oldcastle were slow to start, the first few shots missing the target. Eventually captain Eoin Muldoon registered on the scoreboard after a nice pass from Ciaran Connell. A nicely taken shot by Eoin Smith was Oldcastle’s next score, and shortly after a great Fionn McCabe block-down came to Rory Crawley who got a free. Eoin Muldoon stepped up to take it and slotted over a great score.

But all the while Nobber were stronger and took their chances, and a half time it was Nobber 10, Oldcastle 3.

Rory Crawley was unlucky not to get the first score of the second half, his effort smashing off the crossbar. JP Purcell took a point, while Nobber were being put under pressure at the far end, and shot a lot of wides. Ciaran Connell took the next score. James Gibney nearly had the next, his effort thumping into the post but rebounding,

Rian Mulvaney then moved up into the forward line and took the next three scores, which were to be our last. However Nobber were stronger and were outscoring the home side all the way through, leaving the final score 16 – 8.

Overall though, this spirited U-12 team can be proud of their great run in the League. They have trained consistently hard, and worked for every ball, and even when things went against them they never gave up. We were also without 2 of our most influential players today, with Ryan Kevin and Lloyd Colleran being missed at midfield. Well done to everyone on the panel for their commitment and hard work, and to all the mentors. Ultimately though, Nobber turned on the style today and we wish them the best of luck in the final.
