Meath on top in high scoring game

Defending Champions, Meath got off to a winning start in this Rd.1 game of this year’s Gerry Reilly Leinster U16 FT played in Portarlington this afternoon (22/6/2019). It was Laois that got the opening 2 scores with points by Colin Dunne (f) & Conor Kelly. Meath responded with 2 point, including a converted 45 by Ruarí Kinsella. Laois regained the lead with another Colin Dunne point. A Meath point and a goal by Luke Caffrey had 3 points between the sides. Laois tagged on 2 points to leave the minimum between the sides at 1-3 to 0-5.
Meath then got completely on top for the remainder of the half and added 2-4 to their tally before the break.

On the resumption Meath stretched their lead with points from Ruarí Kinsella Cian Smyth and an Alan Bowden goal. Meath used all their 12 subs (Unlimited substitution) before the end of the game, while Laois also used their subs. Laois never gave up and closed the gap with 3 goals. A fantastic performance by their outstanding player, Colin Dunne, who scored 2-9 on the day.

Meath have a bye next Saturday (29 June), while Laois travel to play Westmeath
