Disappointing outing in Ballinlough

Ballinlough 2-09 Oldcastle 1-05
The Corn na Boinne 2nd Rd. match in Ballinlough this afternoon (1 Feb.2020) started well, with a lovely Colin Hawdon point the opener for Oldcastle. Ballinlough grew in dominance however, and a Harry Ryan goal midway through the half left them four ahead. A melee near the end saw a player from both sides given marching orders. Oldcastle came back with a lovely point from Lee Healy and another from Pearse Sheridan, but the unpredictable breeze was causing havoc and the half ended with the score Oldcastle 0-03, Ballinlough 1-02.
A C.J. Healy free was the first score when play resumed, but with the wind now dying down and favouring the opposition, it began to go their way again. However a pointed free from Colin Hawdon was followed by a super goal from new recruit Garrett O’Reilly, to level the match. Just about now however, Oldcastle received a red card (2 yellows), and Ballinlough tipped over a lovely point from play to state their intentions, and with Harry Ryan’s accurate free-taking and a penalty just to top it off, it was their match from then on.

The next round sees Blackhall Gaels travel to Millbrook next Saturday 8th for a 6pm throw-in.
