Clann na nGael take Junior C Championship honours in the Gilson Park

Clann na nGael 2-17 Oldcastle 2-16

The Junior C Championship provided a thrilling match in Gilson Park this evening (25/72019), with Oldcastle taking on Clann na nGael. With the Park looking stunning and the sun breaking through the clouds, both teams were evenly matched all the way through. Oran Mulvanny and Peter Monaghan took the first two for Oldcastle, with veteran Niall Mangan slotting over the next. Lee Healy, Conor McHugh and Kyle Kavanagh were next on the scoreboard, but for every point Oldcastle took, the Athboy side took one back, before slotting in a goal midway through the half. Oran, Lee and Kyle all took one more each, with Eoin Gilsenan also adding a point, and at the end of the first half it was the same amount of scores apiece, but the goal the crucial difference: Oldcastle 0-10, Clann nan Gael 1-09.

Oran got Oldcastle off to the best possible re-start, with a fine goal boosting the team. But Athboy came back with a goal of their own, and it was tit-for-tat the whole way through again. Some great scores from the Oldcastle lads saw them stay in contention throughout, including two from Conor McHugh, home on a pit-stop from his travels, and a lovely score from grizzled old war-horse Jimmy Smith. Oran Mulvanny ended the half as he started with another goal, but unfortunately Athboy did just enough to hang on for the win.
