4th win in the U-16 FL

Oldcastle 7-18 St Mary’s/Slane 4-7
Oldcastle secured their 4th win of the U-16 FL Div.3 campaign in this high scoring game played in a chilly Millbrook on Tuesday evening ( 25/04/17).
Cillian Hanlon was the first to find the net for the home side and this was followed by points from Colin Hawdon and Cillian Connell before the visitors found the net for their first score on the 7th minute mark. Aaron Getty grabbed Oldcastle’s second goal as the home side looked like they were pulling clear despite playing against the wind. St Marys \ Slane started to find their feet and some direct running found holes in the home sides defence and with 20 minutes on the clock there were back in touch as the scoreboard showed Oldcastle 2-5 St Mary’s/Slane 2-4. This was a wakeup call for Oldcastle and in the final 10 minutes of the first half they outscored their opponents 3-3 to 0-2 to leave the half time score Oldcastle 5-8 St Marys/Slane 2-6

Cillian Connell opened the second half scoring with a point which he followed with a goal on the 7th minute. Oldcastle were now in control with the full back line of Ciaran Healy, Darragh Reilly and Colin Halpin playing very well. Charlie Lynch was on target with a goal and a point. The visitors were pushing hard looking for a late score to finish on a high. As the ball bounce around the Oldcastle small square the ball seemed to deflect off an Oldcastle player into his own net. Cillian Connell added 2 more points to finish the game and leave the final score Oldcastle 7-18 St Mary’s/Slane 4-7.

Next up is a trip to Ballinabrackey on Tuesday 2nd May.
