Young side lost out to an experienced Clann na nGael side

Clann na nGael 6-17 Oldcastle 3-8

A very strong BFL (Div 3)  performance from the Athboy side saw them take the points in front of a home crowd this evening (3 May 2019). They dominated the opening period, and had 1-06 to Oldcastle’s 0-01 on the (very swanky) scoreboard after ten minutes. A few good scores from Lee Healy spared Oldcastle’s blushes, but at half-time it was Oldcastle 0-06, Clann na nGael 3-12.

Oldcastle put in a great effort after the break, with a super goal from Oran Mulvanny raising spirits. Kyle Kavanagh added a free, with Conor Delaney tacking on a lovely point, followed by a goal. It was Conor again soon after who kicked a great pass in to Rory McHugh who was lurking round the goalmouth and hit it straight to the net. It was now 3-08 to 3-14, with the deficit reduced to six and hopes rising, but the Athboy men regrouped and clinically smashed in three goals in a matter of minutes to ensure the victory.

Well done to the Oldcastle lads for a good performance overall: with the majority of the lads U-19,  but up against a very strong and experienced team.
