U-21’s book their place in the Semi-Final with a powerful display

Oldcastle 5-10 Longwood 2-6
A great team performance gained Oldcastle a place in the Under 21B football championship semi final.

It was Longwood who got off to a better start having an unanswered 1-01 after 5 Minutes. However, this did not affect Oldcastle’s attitude as CJ Healy sent over Oldcastle’s first score just three minutes later. Robbie Smith was on hand to reduce the deficit as he added another to the score sheet. This was quickly followed by a Lee Healy point as Oldcastle began to build. Conor Delaney found the back of the net after fifteen minutes to put Oldcastle in the lead for the first time in the game. Longwood added another two points and the sides were level with 5 minutes to the break. A brilliant effort from Oldcastle in the closing stages of this first half saw Oldcastle add 2-3 with Delaney added his second goal, CJ Healy converting a penalty and Jason Scully, Ronan Maguire and Lee Healy all adding a point.

Oldcastle had the advantage heading into the second half and they ensured that remained the same throughout this half. Longwood were first off the mark again this half with a point from play which was shortly cancelled out by a point from CJ Healy. A Longwood penalty reduced the Oldcastle lead in the third quarter but Oldcastle produced a strong finish. Delaney found the net once more before Kyle Kavanagh and CJ Healy both added a point. Oldcastle were well in front in the closing stages of the game but racked up another 1-01 with Ronan Maguire hitting the net and Delaney adding a point to his tally before the final whistle.

A great team performance on the day with best displays from Colin Curran, CJ Healy, Robbie Smith and Conor Delaney.
