U-16’s qualify for the semi-finals with a win over Carnaross
Oldcastle 2-17 Carnaross 1-6
Both sides knew that a win in the U-16 Division 4 game would guarantee a semi-final spot and it was the home side that came out on top in a windy Millbrook (10 May 2016).
This was a repeat of the 2015 Under 15 final and it was Dylan Garrigan that opened the scoring for the home side, but this was cancelled out within minutes by a Carnaross score. Both sides traded points before Cillian Connell and Dylan Garrigan converted frees to start to put day light between the sides. A Pearse Sheridan point and another free from Cillian stretched the lead further. Dylan Garrigan won the ball around midfield and ran at the Carnaross defence. With the wind at his back he let fly from forty metres out and the ball sailed across the black spot. Oldcastle were well in control at this stage and were well on top all over the field. Ciaran Healy was doing well in defence as was Louis Colleran and Conor Hetherton and Dylan Garrigan were in control in the centre area. Cillian Connell converted another free following good work by Pearse Sheridan. The half time score was Oldcastle 0-11 Carnaross 0-4.
The lads knew that the second half would mean playing into the strong breeze, but they had a good start as Dylan Garrigan won the ball from the throw up and raced forward to convert. Carnaross tried hard to get back into the game, but Jack Fox was in full control in the Oldcastle goals. Oldcastle were keeping the scoreboard ticking over through James McCluskey and Cillian Connell. Carnaross were then dealt a blow when their midfielder picked up a second yellow card. Carnaross did grab a goal with 10 minutes remaining, but Oldcastle hit back with 2 of their own through Conor Hetherton and Pearse Sheridan.
