U-14’s make it 6 wins from 6 in the Summer FL

Oldcastle 4-12 Ballivor 3-9

Our Under 14’s maintained their unbeaten run with a hard earned victory in the U-14 Summer FL played in Ballivor ( Thursday 30th July).
Oldcastle were on top from the start but wasted a couple of early chances before Cillian Connell opened the scoring.  Full back Conor Smith followed his man out the field and this was working in Oldcastle’s favour as he picked up allot of procession and also chipped in with a point.  Jack Mc Donald Fox grabbed a goal for the visitors before Captain Louis Colleran who had also ventured up from the full back line also added a well taken point.   Dj Monaghan was winning a lot of ball in the forwards as was Colin Halpin who capped a great first half with two points.   Ballivor were not taking it lying down and were doing well in attack grabbing a couple of scores.   Indeed they could have had several more in the first half if not for great defending from Aaron Ward and Darren Connell.  Ciaran Healy was in fine form in goals and made a number of saves.  One deflected save was heading for the net but just before Ballivor could celebrate Aaron Ward somehow managed to clear the ball off the line.    As the first half drew to a close Oldcastle were award a penalty which Cillian Connell coolly slotted home.  Ballivor finally broke through Oldcastle rear guard to leave the half time score  Oldcastle 2-8 Ballivor   1-6.

Colin Halpin opened the scoring for the visitors early in the second half.  Conor Smith who is better known for stopping goals brought his total for the game to 1 – 1 as he  picked up a breaking ball at the edge of the box before  slotting  the ball into the net.  Ballivor also finished to the net in what was now turning into a great game of football.   The play went from one end to the other and Ref Paddy Melia was doing well allowing the game to flow but yet encouraging both sides to do things right at the same time.  Oldcastle had introduced Aaron Getty and Cillian Hanlon at half time and both were making an impact in the forwards with Cillian extending the leading with a point.  Pearse Sheridan finished to the net for Oldcastle’s 4th goal however this was quick cancelled out as Ballivor were awarded a penalty which was duly converted.    In the dying minutes Oldcastle were awarded a 2nd penalty of the game.  By that stage Cillian Connell who had converted the earlier spot kick had left the field so Pearse Sheridan stepped however his effort went narrowly wide.

When the ref blew the final whistle it brought to a close a great game of football with both sides giving  110%.  The play flowed from end to end with fine skill and great play on display however Oldcastle came out on top to head home the happiest.

The Oldcastle team was:
