U-13’s through to the final on Wednesday in Dunganny
Oldcastle 8-06, Clann na nGael 6-06
Our U-13 team faced tough opposition in this semi-final when Clann na nGael came to Millbrook today (5 October 2017). Oldcastle had a dream start, with goals from Paul Hennessy and Ryan Kevin on the scoreboard after a few minutes. The Athboy side retaliated with a goal of their own, in what was a bruising and dogged encounter. Ciaran Connell and Brian Hetherton were doing fantastic work in defence. Two more goals from Paul Hennessy saw Oldcastle lead 4-01 to 1-04 with a few minutes left in the first half, before a shock and awe blitz of scores from the opposition saw them ahead at half-time on a score of Oldcastle 4-01, Clann na nGael 3-05.
The second-half was intense, with the sides swapping the lead on a few occasions. Scores from Rory Crawley, Eoin Smith and Paul Hennessy saw Oldcastle in the lead, before CnG once again pulled ahead with two quick goals within a minute. However Oldcastle dug deep and with Ryan Kevin and Rory Crawley in impressive form the team rallied. A fantastic point from Rory from way out was followed by a goal from Jamie Keatinge, which put Oldcastle ahead once again.
This time the lads weren’t going to relinquish victory: and finished off with more goals from Paul and Ryan to win on a score of Oldcastle 8-06, Clann na nGael 6-06.
Well done to each and every player on the field, today’s match was tough from start to finish, and every one of them played with determination, against a big and physical team. The final will be played in Dunganny this Wednesday evening at 8pm, with Ballinlough providing the opposition.
