Trim make it 9 wins from 9 outings in Div 1B with their victory over Oldcastle
Trim 3-17 Oldcastle 2-10
Oldcastle travelled to take on All-Ireland Intermediate Finalists Trim this evening (14 June 2022), and for the most part it was an enjoyable, competitive match. Trim got the better start, going four points up after ten minutes, but Oldcastle came back with Jason Scully pointing a free; minutes later he was blasting the ball at the Trim goalie, his effort was saved but Oran Mulvanny got to the rebound and fired her to the back of the net to level the match.
Jason came again with the next point, Trim levelling again. Robbie Farrelly then pointed a free, Trim levelling once more. An Oldcastle defensive error gifted Trim a goal however, putting them three ahead. Oldcastle started the overtaking manoeuvre once more, with Jason pointing, CJ converting, and then a Pearse Sheridan penalty which he coolly put past the keeper to send Oldcastle ahead once again! A two-point lead, but unfortunately followed by an undeserved black card for Scully, and an Aaron Lynch free to reduce the deficit, just as the half-time whistle blew on a score of Oldcastle 2-06, Trim 1-07.
With Jason still sidelined as the second-half started, Trim levelled once more. A fine point from CJ put Oldcastle in the lead again, but for what was to be the last time; another point plus a goal from Trim giving them a three point lead again, and from then on they dominated.
The Oldcastle lads never gave up and there was some fine play on display, but Trim were just the stronger and were able to use their strength to push for the win. Final score: Oldcastle 2-10, Trim 3-17.
