Tough start for the U-13’s in Dunsany
Dunsany 7-15 Oldcastle 2-8
The U-13 FL (Div.5) campaign got underway tonight (7 Sept.2016) against a strong Dunsany team in Dunsany. Oldcastle only managed to get 2 points on the board in the first half, both from Ross McCann. On the other hand, Dunsany had a dream start, getting 4-8 up before the break.
Upon resumption of the game Dunsany then fired 2 goals in the first few minutes. However the Oldcastle lads started to get their act together and take the game to the opposition. A great Darren Kavanagh catch found it’s way upfield via Jamie Keatinge into the able hands of Jack Murphy who fired it over for a lovely point. Jack then fed the next ball on to Ross McCann who took his chance and scored a goal. Jack added the next point, before Ciaran Connell made a great catch, which he fed on to Lloyd Colleran who kicked it perfectly into Ryan Kevin’s waiting arms, for another Oldcastle goal. A great James Tuite block stopped a near certain goal for the opposition.
Cormac O’Connell was having a storming match in defence, and he got the ball out of danger and on to Ross, who found Ciaran Connell, then on to Jack Murphy who chipped it in to J.P. Purcell who took a lovely point. Conor Boylan fed another ball on to Ciaran, back to Conor, on to Jack Murphy, then Ross, to Lloyd Colleran, back to Ross and finally to Ryan Kevin for the next point. The lads were getting into their groove now and playing some nice football. Jack Murphy took the next point, followed by a fantastic Jack Kellett pick-up which he got up the field to Lloyd and on to J.P. for the final Oldcastle point.
The final score was Dunsany 7-15, Oldcastle 2-08, but in fairness to the lads this was their first match together as a team, and they made a great comeback in the second half when they started to settle down and play as a team.
