Three out of Four in Corn na Boinne

Oldcastle 2-12, Longwood 1-10
The Oldcastle lads donned their new BD Flood jerseys for tonight’s (30/06/2021) Corn na Boinne encounter with Longwood, in a sun-baked Millbrook. The first half was a tight affair: Oldcastle going ahead by 1-02 thanks to Conor Delaney, Ronan Maguire and an Oran O’Reilly goal, only for Longwood to slam in a goal of their own and go on to level the scores. James Cook at midfield, playing his first match for Oldcastle, was winning plenty of ball, ably assisted by Ross Cadden. Longwood went ahead by a point, but Ronan, Conor and CJ added on three more for Oldcastle. Longwood replied with five unanswered points before the half-time whistle: that put them in the lead by three, Oldcastle 1-05, Longwood 1-08.
The second-half got underway in ominous fashion, with Longwood pointing immediately. Oldcastle regrouped however: Keith Connell, Robbie Farrelly and Conor Delaney sending over fine points to bring the gap down to a single point. Longwood answered with a point of their own, but were running out of steam and that was to be their last point of the match. A fine point from play by Paddy Rahill spurred the lads on, Robbie Farrelly adding the next, with two in a row from Keith Connell to follow. Robbie was bombing in towards goal soon after but was fouled by the goalie: a black card for him and a penalty for Oldcastle the result. Robbie blasted it past the replacement goalie to leave the final score a respectable Oldcastle 2-12, Longwood 1-10.
