Seniors back to winning ways in A League
Oldcastle 1-15 Syddan 0-11
Going into this penultimate A League match at Millbrook this evening, Oldcastle were third from bottom of the table, and taking on Syddan who occupy that bottom spot. The first point went to Syddan but the home team soon found their stride, a lovely C.J. Healy point from way out the field followed by an equally good score from Paddy Rahill. A Jason Scully pointed free was followed by another nice score from C.J, another free from Jason and yet another lovely point from play by C.J. A bad landing from a high ball saw Paddy Rahill leave the field in pain, hopefully temporary. The half-time score was Oldcastle 0-08, Syddan 0-05.
A Packie Kevin kick-out at the resumption found Darren Hawdon who was fouled, the free moving on via Eoin Gilsenan to Lee Healy, back to Eoin, on to Colin Hawdon, passed to Terry Farrelly who then found Colin again, now travelling at speed through the centre, making no mistake and putting it straight between the posts. Oran O’Reilly got a nice ball to Keith Connell soon after, Keith making great work to get the ball most of the way down the field before finding Dylan Garrigan close to goals who sailed it over for another. Syddan had added on three points by now but Oldcastle were looking confident. A super catch and clearance by Eoin Gilsenan got the ball onwards via Ger Reidy, to Robbie Farrelly, Lee Healy, Dylan Garrigan, back to Lee, on to Colin Hawdon who passed to brother Darren, who fed it on to C.J., a lovely chip from him saw it drop right in front of goal for the waiting Oran Mulvanny who nabbed a goal. Oldcastle never looked back from there. A black card for Jason Scully near the end saw Syddan tempers rise along the sidelines, but the Oldcastle lads on the pitch kept their cool and added a few more, to leave 7 points between the sides at the final whistle.
The final round in this ACFL is against Moynalvey this Sunday 16th at 2pm in Millbrook.
