Powerful display by Dublin to book place in the Cup Final
Dublin 3-15 Meath 0-7
Meath’s split squad proved to be no match for Dublin in the Rd.3 game of the Gerry Reilly U-16 FT played in Millbrook, Oldcastle on Sunday evening. Dublin had a lightening start with a Richie English goal just after 12 seconds. He added a pointed free into the 3rd minute of play. Tom Fadden got 2 points (1f) for Meath.
Ross McGarry pointed for Dublin. Dublin had 2 attempts on goal pushed out for a 4, which was converted for a point by Richie English. Points were then exchanged. It was Meath’s turn to have an attempt on goal, but the shot was off target. Meath failed to convert 2 frees which were again wide of the target. Points were again exchanged just before the break.
H/T: Dublin 1-6 Meath 0-4
A Tom Fadden converted free on the re-start reduced the gap to 4 points. But then Dublin got the upper hand by adding 6 unanswered points, Meath’s Sean Blackwell’s point was cancelled out by Richie English’s point (f). Conal Ahearne got Meath’s final score from a pass off a 45 free.
Meath were throwing caution to the wind, but there was no stopping Dublin who went on to add 2 goals (Daniel Brennan & Ross McGarry (penalty) and a point to their final scoreline.
Overall an impressive display by Dublin who have booked their place in the Cup Final against Cavan on Sunday, 25th July.
