Oldccastle on top in high scoring encounter

Oldcastle 2-22 St Michael’s/Nobber 4-13
Oldcastle came out on top in this high scoring first round game of the U-17 Special Football Championship played in Carlanstown on Tuesday, 15th August.

Oldcastle started the brightest with a score from Dylan Garrigan. Louis Colleran was doing very well in defence and broke up a number of St Michael’s/Nobber’s attacks. Oldcastle had 4 points on the board before the home side got off the mark. Colin Hawdon forced the home side’s keeper into a great save however the ball ricochet over the bar to put 5 points between the sides. The home side replied with their first goal of the game to narrow the gap. The sides swapped points before St Michael’s/Nobber grabbed their second goal to take the lead. Oldcastle replied with a Cillian Connell point to draw level before the home side yet again found the net to leave the half time score at St Michael’s/Nobber 3-7 Oldcastle 0-13.

The second half started with the home side adding some more points,but Oldcastle replied with scores from Dylan Garrigan 0-1 and Colin Hawdon 0-4. The home side scored their 4th goal of the game before Colin Hawdon fired to the net for Oldcastle. Oldcastle finally regained the lead when Cillian Connell grabbed another goal. As the light faded the excitement didn’t as both sides pushed hard to take control of the game, however Oldcastle finished out the game with scores from Oran Mulvanny and Colin Hawdon to secure the victory.
