Oldcastle booked their place in the Reserve Cup Div 3 Final

Oldcastle 2-12 St.Patrick’s 1-08
The Oldcastle Reserve Cup team made the long journey to Stamullen this evening (1/10/2022) to take on St. Patrick’s in the Reserve Cup Div 3 Semi-Final. The first half was all Oldcastle: Garrett O’Reilly getting things underway with a nice point from play, with Kyle Kavanagh converting a foul on the same Garrett soon after. A super intercept from Cillian Connell was fed on via Oran Mulvanny, to Lee Healy and back to Kyle, then in to Keith Connell who fired in a great ball only to have her come back off the post, still in play, and in the ensuing melee in the goal mouth Oldcastle won a penalty. The cool-headed Lee Healy stepped up and blasted her to the back of the net. Two more frees from Lee and a lovely point from play for Ben Grey completed the Oldcastle tally for the first half, comfortably outscoring the home side, with the half time score Oldcastle 1-05, St. Pats 0-02.

St. Pats came out with all guns blazing when play resumed, a point sailed over was followed by a goal and yet another point, and what was a comfortable lead was reduced to the bare minimum. Maybe that was the wake-up called needed however. Karl Gibney’s kickout found Darren Hawdon, on to Cillian Connell and in to the recently introduced Stephen Tierney who nailed her straight between the posts. St. Pats added on one of their own to make it a one point game yet again. Lloyd Colleran cleared a ball on to Ross Cadden, to Lee Healy, upfield via Garrett, Kyle Kavanagh and finally to Stephen Tierney who sailed her over again. But once again St. Pats replied with their own point: a one point game still. Then came the decisive moment in the match: Karl’s kickout found Oran Mulvanny who was dominating midfield, a super catch and on to Kyle: he chipped a lovely pass in to the waiting Lee Healy: Lee turned and shot and sent her straight to the back of the net! That gave the lads the boost they needed and they never looked in danger from then on despite St. Pats giving it all they had. A super Darren Hawdon intercept and clearance found Ben Grey, on to Garrett, back to Ben who was fouled: the ball onwards to Mossy Flood who made a great run, finding Stephen Tierney: he was fouled, Lee converted. A lovely pass from Conor Delaney found the waiting Lee with the next play and once more he put her between the posts. More points from Tierney and a final free from Lee were added on, and when the final whistle blew it was on a scoreline of Oldcastle 2-12, St. Pats 1-08.

A great performance, and one that sees the lads into this Reserve Cup final against Moynalvey.
