Leitrim took the place of Monaghan (who withdrew) in the Gerry Reilly Leinster U16 FT and played their first game where they took on Meath this morning in Millbrook, Oldcastle. Leitrim got the opening score with a Conor Hackett point. Meath replied with a point and a goal from the boot of Barry Thompson. Leitrim were creating chances at this point, but 2 fine Meath goals (a pass from Pearse Sheridan to Barry Thompson for one and Barry Thompson to Niall Finnerty for the other) put Meath in the driving seat to lead 3-1 to 0-2 at this stage. Leitrim did get to narrow the gap to 5 points, but Meath went on to lead at the break by 3-7 to 0-6.
On the resumption, Meath added 2-2 to their tally before Leitrim’s first from a free. Leitrim went to add 2 points to their tally before Meath got 9 unanswered points.
Leitrim never gave up and playing their first game in the tournament, but Meath were dominant with 9 players getting on the scoreboard.
