Meath book their place in the Cup Semi-Final
Meath 4-18 Wexford 4-8
Wexford were first off the mark in this Gerry Reilly Leinster U16 Cup Q/Final played in Millbrook, Oldcastle on Saturday afternoon with a Liam Doyle converted free for a point. 2 points from frees by Eoghan Frayne put Meath ahead. They could have been further ahead, but Ruari Kinsella’s penalty kick was wide of the post after a foul on Eoghan Frayne.
At the other end, a Wexford goal attempt was wide of the target before they regained the lead with a point and a goal. It was nip and tuck between the sides with both sides creating scoring chances. The sides were level on 2 more occasions before the break with some great goals from both sides. Wexford showed great determination and might have considered themselves to be unlucky not to be ahead at the break.
H/T: Meath 3-6 Wexford 3-4
Meath upped their game on the restart with 6 unanswered points from play to lead by 8 points. Wexford never gave up and while they got their 4th goal, the result was never in doubt. Cian Smyth’s 4th goal for Meath and Eoghan Frayne’s converted free for a point were the final scores of a most entertaining game. Credit to both teams.
Meath’s Eoghan Frayne was presented with the ‘Man of the match’ award by Martin Blake (Briody Bedding – Sponsors of the tournament)
