Last minute goal earns victory for Dunderry

Dunderry 4-9 Oldcastle 2-12

Dunderry conceded home advantage as their pitch was unplayable and a late goal was enough to make their journey worthwhile in U-16 FL Division 4 (Round 2) played in Millbrook (05/04/16).  Oldcastle started with a Dylan Garrigan point which was followed by a couple of missed goal chances as the Oldcastle forwards seemed intent on going for goal.  Colin Hawdon and Josh Halpin added points before Colin Hawdon finished to the net on the 12th minute.  Dunderry finally got on the score sheet on the 13 minute.  Dunderry were all set to score a goal but Jack Fox saved the shot however the rebound fell to a Dunderry forward who scored a point.   Dunderry finished to the net on the 23rd minute and this was followed by a couple of scores to bring the game to 1 – 4 a piece.  Colin Hawdon grabbed his second goal on the 28th minute.  A Josh Halpin effort was cancelled out by Dunderry to leave the score Oldcastle 2 – 5 Dunderry 1 – 5.

Dylan Garrigan scored the first point of the second half within 2 minutes of the restart.  Colin Hawdon added a brace as Oldcastle looked to be taking control.  Dunderry pulled back a couple of points and gaps were starting to appear in the Oldcastle defence.  Dunderry scored a goal on the 20th minute and continued to push hard.  Dylan Garrigan and Cillian Hanlon added points for the home side.   Jack Fox pulled off another fine save and then Louis Colleran block a goal bound effort but the Dunderry forwards were lining up and one of them finished to the net.    With the game all square Dunderry were pushing for the win as Oldcastle were now under pressure to even hold on to the ball.  As the clock ticked down Dunderry netted for the 4th time to go ahead.

When Ref Gerry Skelly blew the final whistle,  Dunderry were the victors as Oldcastle were left to wonder what if they had taken the points instead of going for goals in the first 10 minutes.
