Impressive display in the BFL game last evening
Oldcastle 3-20 Moynalvey 0-5
Oldcastle claimed an impressive victory on home turf yesterday evening with a convincing win over their opposing team Moynalvey, whom they lost out against in last year’s Division 3 final.
The home side rallied from the early stages; full forward Robbie Farrelly hitting 3 points before the midfield pairing of Conor Delaney and Robbie Smith each raised the white flag. Farrelly hit the net on the twenty minute mark with a palmed finish on the end of a fantastic Oldcastle move that began deep within their own half. This drove on the home side’s intent and with that added further pointed efforts from Sean McEnroe, Johnny Shortt, Steven Lawless, Kyle Kavanagh and Paddy Monaghan. This left Oldcastle well in front and in the driving seat at the break with a score of 1-12 to 0-1.
The second half was no different and Oldcastle continued to tantalise the Moynalvey defence by raising the green flag on two occasions within the first ten minutes, each move finished in fine style from Oldcaste half forward Lee Healy. These stages of the contest put the game beyond Moynalvey’s reach and the home side continued to put the scoreboard to work. Oldcastle raised the white flag on eight occasions, while Moynalvey did test the Oldcastle defence by working four well taken scores between the posts. Oldcastle’s Farrelly hit the same form as he did in the first by scoring 0-3, while McEnroe, Oran O’Reilly, Shortt and Healy each claimed 0-1 to the scoresheet.
A promising display by the North Meath men, who will play St. Colmcille’s at home in the final round of this year’s league.
