Great effort by the B’s in their Rd.1 game played on Saturday
Curraha 4-12, Oldcastle 2-12
Oldcastle kick-started their B League (Div. 3) campaign today (Sat. 23/2/2019) away to Curraha. Curraha could only round up 14 players so the match was played 14-aside. Oldcastle fielded a very young team: the average age would have been twenty if you took battle-hardened old veteran Jimmy Smith out of the calculations! A very exciting match presented Oldcastle with several goal opportunities, but unfortunately the Curraha goalie was in top form today and made some fantastic saves.
Cillian Connell and Darragh Reilly were in exceptional form and dominated their men, while Charlie Lynch was Oldcastle’s man of the match, and was unlucky to receive a black card near the end. Even more unlucky was one of the Curraha defenders; another great save by the Curraha goalie rebounded off him and into the net for an Oldcastle own goal.
Overall Oldcastle put in a great effort while the spectators enjoyed a super game of football.
