Good win in the AFL over Bective this evening
Oldcastle 2-11 Bective 0-8
With Oldcastle dominating this game from the get go, they justifiably walked away with two points in the Rd.7 AFL Div 3 game played in Millbrook on Saturday evening (21 May 2016). Eoin Gilsenan was first on the scoresheet for Oldcastle after 8 minutes following good defence from Eoin McNamee and Oran O’Reilly.
Niall Mangan added a converted free and one from play while Paddy Gilsenan added his first after winning the Bective kick out and headed straight for the goals to give Oldcastle a four point advantage going into the second quarter of the game.
Bective then sent over their first of the game, but this was counteracted by another Mangan point following a great run up the field by Paddy Rahill. Oldcastle added another two, a free from Rahill and one from play from Robert Farrelly before Bective responded again.
With Oran O’Reilly doing trojan work in defence, he worked the ball up the field with Eoin Gilsenan and Rahill before sending it into Paddy Gilsenan to bury it in the back of the net and give Oldcastle the lead they wanted.
Bective, however, reduced the deficit by 2 before the break leaving Oldcastle 6 points clear heading into the second half.
Mangan was first of the mark after the break with a converted free. A goal from Farrelly after a brilliant interception from Rory McHugh in the middle of the field, at the early stages of the second half really gave Oldcastle the advantage they wanted and they pushed on from here.
Bective added their fifth, but both Farrelly and Tierney were on target as they kept the Oldcastle lead. Bective hit over an unanswered three in the final quarter of the game but it was Paddy Gilsenan who had the last say leaving Oldcastle 9 points clear at the final whistle.
A great team display from Oldcastle with best performances from Oran O’Reilly, Paddy Gilsenan, Niall Mangan and Rory McHugh.
