First win of the new season
Oldcastle 3-09 Nobber 0-12
A much improved performance from Oldcastle in their Round 2 Corn na Boinne match against Nobber this evening (11/2/2022) saw them record their first win of the season. Nobber, now without influential player Jordy Morris, were playing against the stiff breeze to start. Oldcastle made the most of the situation, firing in three goals early in the first, from the boots of Conor Delaney, James Cooke and Ben Grey, who also took a nice point from play. Jason Scully was having a great match and getting the ball upfield, creating chances and taking a fine point himself. The score was Oldcastle 3-04, Nobber 0-02 at the break.
Nobber had a great start to the second half, adding on five unanswered points. The Oldcastle half back line was in disarray for a time, but regrouped. Two points from Robbie Farrelly got Oldcastle back on track again. Nobber added on another point and free to ring it back to six points, but Oldcastle came again, Cormac Fagan getting the ball on to Paddy Rahill, to Garrett O’Reilly, on to Jason Scully, to Lee Healy and back to Paddy Rahill, who was promptly fouled, with CJ Healy converting. Nobber added on three more of their own before the full time whistle, but Oldcastle also added on two: fouls on both Josh Halpin and Jason Scully in front of goals converted by Robbie. Overall a solid team performance saw Oldcastle the stronger. Best wishes to Ronan Maguire for a speedy recovery, and well done to Lloyd Colleran on his senior debut.
The last fixture of the round robin (Rd.3) sees Bective come to Millbrook on Thursday night (17 Feb.2022), with all to play for!
