First win for the U-12’s in the Summer FL

OLDCASTLE 20 MOYNALTY 16

Despite missing a number of regulars, the under 12’s got their first win of the summer league with a well earned victory away against Moynalty in the U-12 Summer  in Moynaltyon Monday evening (20 July 2015).

Captain for the evening Nicole Smith won the toss and selected to play with the aid of a very strong breeze. Ryan Kevin opened the scoring with a well taken point. Moynalty equalised straight away however Oldcastle soon settled and started to take control. Fionn McCabe grabbed a point on his first appearance for the under 12’s. Jack Murphy and Nicole Smith were working hard around midfield and anything that got by them was swept up by Sean Chatten and Conor Boylan. Darren Kavanagh made a number of fine saves in goals and his long kick out was taking the pressure of the backs. Eoin Muldoon scored 2 first half points and Conor Gibbons chipped in 5 first half scores to leave the half time score Moynalty 0-2 Oldcastle 0-13.

It was definitely a game of 2 halves as Moynalty who now had the wind at their backs, started to get a foot hold on the game. Despite the pressure the Oldcastle backs were in fine form. Lloyd Colleran and Brian Hetherton were doing well and Jack Murphy and Nicole Smith were all over the pitch covering every inch of grass and working hard cutting out attacks and setting up attacks of their own. The hard work of backs was rewarded with some well taken scores by the forwards. Every player was supporting their team mate and some great team play resulted in Ryan Kevin grabbing a point. Great play from Fionn McCabe set up a chance for Eoin Muldoon which he duly converted. Moynalty were pushing hard and had the difference down to 3 points with a minute left on the clock. Oldcastle worked the ball up the field from the kick out and the ball broke to Ciaran Connell in the half forward line. Ciaran played a great ball into Conor Gibbons at full forward who grabbed the last score of the game. A big well done to all the players for playing their part in what was great result with a really team effort!!

(In under 12 a goal and a point are both worth 1 score)
