Super team performance brings the cup home

Oldcastle 3-14 Duleek/Bellewstown 1-09

Lee Healy has been a whirlwind all through this campaign, and he had the perfect start this evening (3/9/2026) in the Junior All-County Football Championship, Div. 2 Final played in Paddy O’Brien Park, with a goal in the first minute, from a great pass from Keith Connell. It was a super intercept soon after by Cillian Connell that found Lee, on to Garrett O’Reilly, on via Barry Curran to Tom Lynch, back to Garrett and finally Lee for the point. The kickout became Oldcastle’s thanks to great work by Ross Cadden, on to Keith Connell and a lovely pass to Paddy Gilsenan who accelerated for goal, looking as good as he ever did back in the day for Meath, and another goal for Oldcastle! Ciaran Connell caught that kickout, on to Barry, back to Ciaran, to Garrett, and finally to Lee for yet another point. More points from Paddy and Garrett before Duleek Bellewstown finally got on the scoreboard. A Duleek kickout that seemed destined for its’ man was grabbed from the sky by Robbie Smith, accelerating at great speed and making that super catch, on to Lee and to Garrett for a point. Duleek Bellewstown finally woke up, and in the final six or seven minutes of the first half they added on five points, to leave it Oldcastle 2-05, Duleek Bellewstown 0-06 at the break.

The second-half also got underway with a Lee Healy score, a lovely point sailed over. Conor Delaney caught the kickout, on via Garrett and back to Conor, he smashed her to the back of the net for Oldcastle’s third goal! The opposition put a free wide, Rian Mulvanny’s kickout finding Darren Hawdon, having a great match, on via Conor Hetherton, to Tom Lynch and back to Darren, great football on display here, on via Ross Cadden, to Ciaran Connell and finally Lee, another goal seemed to be on the cards but just not to be, but Louis Colleran stepped up to take the ’45 and sent her over. Keith Connell was next on the scoreboard, with Paddy Rahill instrumental in the next score, moving the ball from one end of the pitch to the other before Garrett popped her over. Duleek hadn’t given up yet, and they were just millimetres away from a goal soon after, she shot right in front of goal, but just missed. Another attack soon after however, and this time they didn’t miss!

They came yet again, and once more a super shot at goal from way out, only a brilliant save from Rian Mulvanny prevented that goal, but the ball went back out and was sent over for a point. The gap was now seven points, but Oldcastle regrouped and put an end to Duleek’s resurgence, more points from Garrett, Conor, Lee and Keith, and all the while the backs were working tirelessly to prevent opposition scores. When the final whistle went, it was on a scoreline of Oldcastle 3-14, Duleek-Bellewstown 1-09, a super team performance from Oldcastle!

A huge well done to all the lads on such a great result, brilliant to have some silverware to end the year, a nice Cup to add to the U14 Div. 1 Shield from earlier in the week! And well done also to all the lads on the panel who didn’t get playing tonight due to injuries: Sean Maxwell played a huge role in the campaign but sickeningly was injured in the warm up; Ryan Kevin who tore his ACL earlier in the year, JP Purcell who came back from his ACL, then tore his hamstring, and to all the lads who took part during the year. Well done to Kyle Kavanagh who flew back from his holidays to be there tonight, and a huge thank you to Physio Clodagh for all her hard work at training and matches all year.

Thank you to Paddy Tuite, John McNamee and Ronan Flanagan for training the lads all year, and of course to Joe Sheridan. A huge thanks to all the Oldcastle folk who gave such great support all year, travelling all over the County, brilliant to have such a big turnout this evening and to have all the children also coming along and cheering on the lads!

Finally, thank you to our Main Sponsor BD Flood Ltd. Also coming on board this year as a jersey sponsor, thanks to Tommy Farrellys, and a huge thank you to Niall for all his help! Enjoy the celebrations lads, and we will go on to bigger and better next year!

Oldcastle: Rian Mulvanny, Louis Colleran (0-01), Conor Hetherton, Cillian Connell, Lee Healy (1-03), Paddy Rahill, Robbie Smith, Ross Cadden, Tom Lynch, Darren Hawdon, Garrett O’Reilly (0-05) Ciaran Connell, Paddy Gilsenan (1-02), Keith Connell (0-02, Barry Curran. Subs: Conor Delaney (1-01), Mikey Timmons, Kyle Kavanagh, Lloyd Colleran, Brian Hetherton.

OLDCASTLE ARE DIVISION 1 SHIELD CHAMPIONS!

Oldcastle 1-13 Dunboyne 3-06

No-one in their right mind would have set foot outside on this wet and windy night, with the storm whipping through, but Oldcastle don’t get to Division 1 finals that often, so a good lock of us did just that, after a spin up to Dunboyne!(29/9/2026). The match got underway with Dunboyne playing with the wind, or more accurately, with the tornado! A shock-and-awe start for Dunboyne who shot down the field, went for goal, glanced her off the inside of the post and into the back of the net! A goal up within thirty seconds! Luke Farrelly pointed a free for Oldcastle soon after, but Dunboyne added one of their own within a minute, one that could easily have been a goal either! Their next shot was wide, but their next attempt after that was on target, a fisted in goal. A point from play from Luke Farrelly next; Dunboyne then adding another themselves. Oldcastle had a ’45, but with the gusting wind it went AWOL. Dunboyne were in for another chance soon after but Oliver Monaghan saved it, and with his kickout he found Jack Fitzpatrick, to Jonathan White, on to Neitanas Majuskas, to Oscar Farrelly, to Max Nulty, back to Oliver, to Tadhg Sheridan, back to Jonathan with a good run, back to Tadhg, to Jake Pakenham and finally to Philip Purcell who sailed her over the bar. But the wind was whirling and swirling and making life hard for everyone, but especially Oldcastle, it was like trying to kick against a stone wall, and Dunboyne added the next point, followed soon after by yet another goal. A free for a foul on Philip Purcell was converted by Oscar Farrelly just as the whistle went on the first half, on a score of Oldcastle 0-04, Dunboyne 3-03.

At least the storm would be with us in the second half, but a big deficit to make up! But if ever a man was made to give inspirational half-times talks it is Ronan Farrelly, and that is just what he did. As the second half got underway the windstorm added some rain to the mix also, to go with the gale-force winds, but at least it was blowing our way now! A great catch by Endis Spruds found Fionn Rahill and in to Luke Farrelly who shot from the D and put her over, a fine two-pointer! Oliver Monaghan was now in his element, the wind adding to his powerful kick-outs, and his next one nearly travelled the length of the pitch, finding Dara Cahill way down, Dara to Luke Farrelly and into the back of the net! A goal for Oldcastle, and the deficit was being reeled in! But nothing was certain yet, Dunboyne were awarded a free right in front of goals; converted, still four points between the teams!

Another two-pointer from Luke Farrelly halved that! A Jonathan White intercept soon after was fed on to Luke again, and over the bar for a point, just one behind now! 24 minutes gone, Rowan Smith fighting for every ball, Tadhg Sheridan was fouled, the free awarded and Luke sent her over for another two-pointer, finally Oldcastle were ahead! Not for long though, with time ticking away Dunboyne were awarded another free, right in front of goals, and despite the wind over she went, level match! Oliver Monaghan’s ball went way downfield, but somehow Dunboyne got possession, but not for long as Nathan Reilly comes out of the scrum with the ball, on to Oscar Farrelly and over to Luke, and he sailed her over for yet another two-pointer, and the lead again! Blow the flipping whistle ref, we were well over time by now, but another play was in progress, and Jesus Christ it’s Dunboyne with the ball, and closing in on goal, they shot, they scored, but only a point! We are still one up! But Mother of Jesus, what’s going on now, Dunboyne are still attacking and they are awarded a FREE! Hearts in mouth time, but the free goes wide, Oliver Monaghan takes the kickout, the ball goes up into the air and the Referee blows the final whistle, and THAT IS IT, OLDCASTLE ARE DIVISION 1 SHIELD CHAMPIONS!

What a season, but it’s the culmination of years of hard work from this gang of lads, and a huge well done to each and every one of you! Congratulations also to your hard working coaches, Ronan Farrelly, Packie Purcell, Darren Reilly and Niall Fitzpatrick! Division 1 is a big ask, but this gang took on the challenge and have been rewarded! Indeed they were literally up there for the Cup; Walterstown won that last night, our lads only lost to them by a single point on a night when Luke was injured early on, so we are up there with the best!

A happy drive down the M3, and into Park Ri for pizzas, and a huge thank you to Donna at McQuaid’s Pharmacy, who insisted on getting the food for the lads! Pizza and chips definitely tastes better with the trophy sitting on the table, so enjoy that feeling lads, and hopefully it’s one you will savour many more times over the years ahead!

Oldcastle: Oliver Monaghan, Jonathan White, Fionn Rahill, Jack Fitzpatrick, Endis Sprugs, Max Nulty, Luke Farrelly (1-11), Neitanas Majuskus, Rowan Smith, Tadhg Sheridan, Jake Pakenhan, Philip Purcell (0-01), Oscar Farrelly (0-01). Subs: Dara Cahill, Nathan Reilly, Dara Masterson, Tariq El Seidy, Charlie McGovern
