Oldcastle 3-15 Skryne 3-10

After two months of rest, Lazarus was busy in the Park this
evening, with both teams making comebacks, but Oldcastle the worthy victors!
Skryne were top of the group going into this match and had the best start,
putting three points on the board, but Oldcastle had the perfect response with
a rocket of a goal from Eoin Smith. Skryne went ahead again however, with
another four unanswered points, before a Ryan Halpin free and Paul Hennessy
goal levelled things up again.

Oldcastle now nudged ahead: a lovely point from Paul
Hennessy was followed by the Skryne kick-out which landed in the waiting arms
of Eoin Smith and sailed straight back over for another, the kick-out from that
came to Tomas Kizelis who was fouled, Rory Crawley converted the free.

Paul took another point before Skryne regained possession
and made a great run all the way upfield, heading for what looked like a
certain goal but for a super save from goalie Padraig Brady, who was on top
form this evening.

Skryne added two points, before some great work from Fionn McCabe regained possession, and it was a good ball from him in to Rory which was the last point of the first-half, with the score: Oldcastle 2-06, Skryne 0-09.

The second-half started quietly, with Oldcastle missing
shots, but Skryne also unable to score, great defence from Thomas Sheridan,
James Gibney and Alan Gilsenan keeping them out, and Padraig pulling off
another fantastic save.

Pat Crawley was also in overdrive, going in hard for every
ball. Rory upped the ante, taking three points in a row, the third kick-out
caught by Tom Lynch and fired back over for another to Oldcastle. A foul on
Eoin Smith gave Oldcastle another pointed free, and a nice cushion of eight
points.

The biblical lad switched sides then however, with Skryne
blasting in two goals within a minute, followed by a point! With the lead
reduced to a solitary point the sidelines went into overdrive, and there will
be Strepsils needed tonight in certain Oldcastle households. A Ciaran Connell
free fed onto Cormac O’Connell found the waiting Paul Hennessy and sailed over
for Oldcastle.

But like the baddie in the horror film who won’t die, Skryne
came back again: a great run slicing right through the Oldcastle defence and
resulting in a goal, and putting them back ahead by a point. A hard-won ball
from Fionn McCabe found Rory and brought it level again, Oldcastle 2-13 to
Skryne 3-10.

The Oldcastle sideline were having a collective fit as
Cormac O’Connell kicked a lovely free in to the waiting Rory who sailed it over
for the certain winner!

While all waited on the final whistle, referee Seamus
O’Connor seemed in no rush at all, and play went on…and on…leading to a Fionn
McCabe free, brought upfield by Tom Lynch, and on to Rory who was fouled.

Cormac stepped up to take the free, way outfield, going for
what all thought would be a nice ball dropped into the box, but which sailed
over the keeper and lodged in the back of the net!

And still play went on, but it was a Rory free that was the
final score of the match, leaving hearts racing.

That result sees the lads into the final against the winner from group A, which takes place next Thursday 25th at 7pm, venue to be confirmed.

The Oldcastle U-14’s took on Navan O’Mahony’s on their home turf this evening (11 July 2019), with both sides putting on a thrilling display. Goals from Paul Hennessy and Rian Mulvanny in the first half, along with points from Rory, Tomas and Paul saw the half-time score Oldcastle 2-05, Navan O’Mahony’s 2-07.

O’Mahony’s came out in the second-half with two goals in quick succession, extending their lead to eight points. The Oldcastle lads regrouped, dug deep and fought back, giving it their all. A goal from Rory and points from Eoin Smith and Paul brought them back into the game, and a goal-fest then ensued, with both teams scoring goals galore and taking tit-for-tat scores.

Thanks to a hat-trick from Rory and fine score taking all round however it was Oldcastle who just edged it by the bare minimum of a point at the final whistle.

The next match is against Skryne on Thursday 18th at 7pm in Millbrook.

The pitch at Millbrook was looking perfect for the U-14 clash of Oldcastle and Ratoath in th FL this evening (18/04/2019). Oldcastle got off to a good start with points from Padraig Brady and Paul Hennessy, before Ratoath responded with a goal. Ryan Halpin then chipped over two for Oldcastle with Tomas Kizelis contributing another, before Rory Crawley slammed home a goal. Ratoath were keeping in contention with some nice scores though, and at half-time it was Oldcastle 1-05, Ratoath 1-03.

The gap widened in the second-half as Oldcastle stamped their dominance on the match. Ratoath were finding it hard to penetrate the Oldcastle defence, and with solid teamwork all over the pitch and goals from the three R’s of Ryan, Rian and Rory, it was a relatively easy win for the home team in the end.

Oldcastle 4-05 Inny Gaels 1-03
The U-14’s made it through their Féile Peile na nÓg Group Stage qualifiers today, although it was a very different day than that anticipated! The original group of four – Oldcastle Gfc, Round Towers, Inny Gaels and St. Mary’s – were originally to play their group matches in Stamullen today. However, with the withdrawal of St. Mary’s during the week, the venue was changed to Millbrook. Round Towers seem to have missed that development, and headed for Stamullen this morning, with misinformation there sending them to Dunshaughlin, but unfortunately not to Oldcastle. The upshot was that it was just neighbours Oldcastle and Inny Gaels who played for a spot in the Division Semi-Final tomorrow.

The game started well with a nice point from Tomas Kizelis, swiftly followed by one from Tom Lynch. Good work from Pat Crawley got the ball back in to Tom for the next, while the speedy Eoin Smith then took two in a row. Ciaran Connell had to work hard for the next ball but secured it and safely delivered it to Rory Crawley who made a great run upfield, before delivering the ball perfectly in to the waiting Padraig Brady who took a lovely goal! All the while Alan Gilsenan, James Gibney and Thomas Sheridan were manning the defences and making life hard for the Inny Gaels forwards, while Ryan Halpin’s man was finding him hard to keep up with him: the half-time score Oldcastle 1-05, Inny Gaels 0-01.

The second half saw Oldcastle assert their dominance with a Paul Hennessy goal followed by a penalty from Cormac O’Connell after Eoin Smith was brought down. Inny Gaels responded with a goal of their own but it wasn’t to be their day. The game ended as it had begun with a Tomas Kizelis score: it came from a fine Rian Mulvanny kick-out to Pat Crawley, on to Fionn McCabe, to Tomas and back again to himself in a classy basketball type move, and fired to the back of the next for a goal. With time up, referee Peter Skelly blew the whistle on a score of Oldcastle 4-05, Inny Gaels 1-03.

That result sees the lads safely through to the Group Semi-Finals. That match is scheduled for Stamullen at 9.45 tomorrow morning (24/3/2019), however with a full round of ACFL matches also on tomorrow morning and a shortage of referees that may be postponed.

Oldcastle: Rian Mulvanny, Alan Gilsenan, James Gibney, Thomas Sheridan, Pat Crawley, Cormac O’Connell (1-00), Fionn McCabe, Rory Crawley, Eoin Smith (0-02), Tom Lynch (0-02), Tomas Kizelis (1-01), Ryan Halpin, Padraig Brady (1-00), Paul Hennessy (1-00), Ciaran Connell, Jamie Pakenham.

Our U-14’s met Ballinabrackey in a tough Spring Football League Div 4 Final in Dunganny this evening (19 June 2018). A great start, with points from Ryan Kevin and Eoin Muldoon and a goal from Eoin Smith, saw them lead by 1-03 to 0-01 after ten minutes. Ballinabrackey clawed back a few points however, and when they scored a goal against the run of play to level it up at the 20 minute mark, it was game on. An Oldcastle point was then given as a wide, while the opposition went on to add another goal and point, to lead by four at the break.

The second half belonged to Ballinabrackey, despite some fine play and scores by Oldcastle, the opposition proved to be the bigger, more physical team, well able to charge downfield and take scores.

Oldcastle 7-14 Rathkenny 7-8
Rathkenny travelled to take on our U-14 team in the Div 4 Semi-Final in Millbrook this evening (12 June 2018), and once the mystery of the missing referee was solved (and get well soon to Martin Dawson from all in Oldcastle) the game commenced with Gerry Skelly the man in black. A big crowd saw Rathkenny take the first point, before Ryan Kevin and J.P. Purcell took points for Oldcastle. Then Rathkenny smashed their first goal in. A Rory Crawley goal put us back in front, but they chipped over another point. Oldcastle settled in now though, and a nice Paul Hennessy point was followed by a lovely Eoin Smith goal, which itself came from a great catch by Fionn McCabe, having a great match at wing back.
Jack Kellett was sticking to his man like glue, and Kane Cullen was also having a fantastic match at wing forward, dominating his side of the pitch, and he took the next point. Cormac O’Connell did great work to get the next ball on to Paul, on to Rory, to J.P. and in to Brian Hetherton for a great goal. The score was now Oldcastle 3-05, Rathkenny 1-03, with just minutes left in the first half. But like a bite from a dying snake, two quick goals from Rathkenny bit Oldcastle in the nether regions, and the half-time whistle saw the score at Oldcastle 3-05, Rathkenny 3-04.

The second-half saw Oldcastle pop over two points, but Rathkenny responded with a goal to level the match. Oldcastle’s defence were working hard throughout: Lloyd, Brian and Ciaran Connell had great matches.. Two goals from Paul Hennessy then gave Oldcastle a great boost. Rathkenny responded with a couple of points, and always looked dangerous near the goals. Tom Lynch made an immediate impact when he came on, with a point and a goal straight off. Rathkenny never gave up, and took another goal to come within six points of Oldcastle. From then on however, we had the upper hand, with a James Gibney blockdown leading to a goal from J.P. Purcell, followed by points from Tom and Eoin Smith. Jamie Keatinge made a few serious saves in goals, making all the difference. Rathkenny then scored a penalty, but a dogfight for the next ball saw Rory Crawley win it and feed it on to Eoin Smith to take another point. Rathkenny came back with yet another goal, but finally the whistle blew on a score-line of Oldcastle 7-14; Rathkenny 7-08.

Fair play to all the lads on both sides for a hugely entertaining, clean and seriously competitive game of football. Fair play as always to Rian Mulvanny for coming along and supporting the lads, hope to have you back soon Rian. Every single player on the pitch gave their all, and huge congratulations to Oldcastle on reaching this Div. 4 Final!

The Final will be played in Dunganny on Tuesday evening next (19 June) at 8pm with Ballinabrackey providing the opposition.

Oldcastle: Jamie Keatinge, Ciaran Connell, James Gibney, Jack Kellett, Cormac O’Connell, Lloyd Colleran, Fionn McCabe, Brian Hetherton (1-00), Rory Crawley (1-00), Kane Cullen (0-02), Eoin Smith (1-03), Ryan Kevin (0-03), Paul Hennessy (2-01), Eoin Muldoon, J.P. Purcell (1-03), Sam Svensson, Colm Gibson, Alan Gilsenan, Adam Smith, Tom Lynch (1-02).
