Blackhall Gaels held off Oldcastle’s fightback

Blackhall Gaels 1-09 Oldcastle 0-10

Oldcastle took on Blackhall Gaels in their final Corn na Boinne match this evening (8 Feb.2020), in atrocious weather conditions at Millbrook, with a strong gusting wind and horizontal rain. Dylan Garrigan, C.J. Healy and Colin Hawdon took points for Oldcastle in the first half, but the opposition had the advantage of the wind behind them and went in at the break on a scoreline of Blackhall Gaels 1-07, Oldcastle 0-03.

Oldcastle got a good start to the second half, with Colin Hawdon fouled and C.J. converting, but missed chances soon after when Garrett O’Reilly and Stephen Tierney were both unlucky not to score.

A lovely point from C.J. Healy was followed by a great pass from Garrett O’Reilly to Pearse Sheridan making a good run and taking a fine point.

Blackhall Gaels kept the tempo up however, and two quick frees saw them extend their lead. As the minutes ticked away, and with three points separating the teams, a cynical foul on Colin Hawdon who was making a good run on goals resulted in a free which he converted, but time was now against us and when the final whistle blew.
