For many decades, the home of Oldcastle GFC was the pitch in Gilson Park. Some twenty years ago it was realised that the pitch there wasn’t sufficient anymore , with the club growing and the establishment of Oldcastle Ladies Gfc. Years of planning and hard work from all involved in the club at that time led to land at Millbrook being purchased, and a beautiful pitch and clubhouse being developed there, and officially opened in May 2010.
For the past decade Millbrook has been an invaluable addition to the club: a main pitch to be proud of, with the Gilson Park also in regular use. The club continues to grow however, with over 200 juvenile players plus our Senior teams requiring regular training and matches. Once again we found the pitches under pressure! The solution we are now working on is a fantastic new juvenile pitch at Millbrook. Once open, it will facilitate training, Go-Games, blitzes and more!
We are also extending the existing walking track to go around the new pitch, including hills and a beautiful section alongside the river Inny. The club are also planning to landscape the pitch-surrounds as a Bio-Diversity garden: both to help the local wildlife and encourage habitats, and as an educational facility for our children to learn more about their environment. The aim is that Millbrook will be more than just a GAA pitch: it will be a beautiful place to come and take a walk or sit and chat, as well as watching or playing our beloved game!
A huge thank you to every one of you who are helping us in this fundraiser. 24 teams of 24 will walk round Millbrook for 24 hours on August 1st and 2nd. We couldn’t complete this project without your help. We are forever grateful to everyone who takes part, and to everyone who donates. We will do you proud with our development.
Yours,
Oldcastle GFC.
