A tight affair in Trim ends in a draw
Oldcastle 2-8 Trim 1-11
Oldcastle remain unbeaten in the A-league Division 3 thus far and were unlucky not to come away with a win last Thursday night (9 March 2017) if it weren’t for a late Trim fight-back.
Oldcastle started off the game brightly with two unanswered points from Stephen Tierney and CJ Healy. They also had the ball in the net thanks to an absorbing solo run and low strike into the bottom corner from Paddy Gilsenan but the opposition fought back throughout the half to leave the scores 1-6 each at half time. Healy, Jason Scully (free) & Gerard Reidy (2) completed the scoring for Oldcastle.
The second half continued to be as closed edged as the first and Oldcastle were forced to make substitutions through injury. Both teams worked tirelessly in defence to keep each other at bay. Oldcastle’s resilience was made pay when they were rewarded a penalty with a late foul on substitute Ross Cadden, which was then tucked home in the back of the net by CJ Healy. Further points from Gilsenan and Scully had the visiting team leading by 2 points, however Trim clawed their way back into the game with a number of frees late on into the dying seconds to leave the score all square.
A tight affair for the neutral where both teams fought right to the death. Oldcastle’s next league game will be a home match against St.Ultan’s.
