A good start to the year for the lads
Oldcastle 2-17 Navan O’Mahony’s 1-14
A good start to the year for the lads in their first game in the Corn na Boinne in Millbrook this evening (24/02/2026), with a solid win over Navan O’Mahony’s. The pitch held up well despite all the recent rain, and it was CJ Healy who got things started with a goal within a minute! Cormac Fagan added a point, but NOMs came back with a two-pointer, followed by two more points to level it, before another two-pointer for the lead. Cormac added a point for Oldcastle, but NOMs added two more of their own to stay ahead. A Keith Connell intercept found Shane Boylan, who passed her on to Cormac Fagan in a great position, his powerful shot was saved by the goalie but came back to Garrett O’Reilly who fired her straight back in and this time she hit the back of the net, to level it again.
O’Mahony’s took a point, before Cian McPartland was instrumental in Oldcastle’s next score with plenty of work to get the ball in to Captain Pearse Sheridan, who put her over the bar, level again. A good run from Rory Crawley saw him pass to Garrett for the next, and Oldcastle were unlucky not to get a goal soon after that. O’Mahony’s scored once more, and when the half-time whistle blew it was on a level pegging of Oldcastle 2-04, Navan O’Mahonys 0-10.
Keith Connell’s point was the first of the second half, with a super Dylan Garrigan run getting the ball to Garrett for the next. Oran Mulvanny was now on the pitch, and his strength and height in the middle of the field helped Oldcastle: a super catch from him was fed on to Lee Healy, still a long way out but super accurate for a lovely two-pointer. O’Mahony’s finally added on a point of their own, but Lee came back at them with another for Oldcastle, but the Navan lads finally found the net with a goal, before adding on a point to level this match once again. A Rory Crawley free after a great run got the ball to Keith, on to the flying Dylan Garrigan who was also fouled, Pearse stepped up and sailed her over, another lovely two-pointer. Oldcastle took possession of the game from here: more points from Lee and Pearse, and the final score from the battling Ronan Maguire, saw the fulltime score Oldcastle 2-17, Navan O’Mahony’s 1-12.
The next round of the CnB sees Walterstown come to Millbrook on Wednesday March 4th at 8pm.
