Junior Ladies Super Display in the Junior D FC Final

Oldcastle 3-10 St Colmcille’s 1-5
The sun setting in Donore, overlooking the prehistoric Newgrange (17/10/2026), was a fitting backdrop to a superb team performance as our Junior Ladies team claimed the Junior D championship, closing out the season on a high!
Oldcastle dominated proceedings from the first minute to the last and never gave St Colmcille’s the space or time to threaten them.
At half time Oldcastle led 1-6 to 0-1 and finished on the hour with a 3-10 to 1-5 winning margin.
Gillian Hawdon and Grace Carr were immense in the back line, whilst Kate Brunton and Lara Colleran carried out man marking duties to perfection on the Colmcilles threats. Deirdre Smith and
Eimer Delaney marshalled the full back line with ease and Annie Doyle’s kick outs found their target every time.
Sarah Briody and Jorune Vautkeviciute dominated the midfield exchanges and when Ciara Gibson joined the fray in the second half she added even more energy to the battle in the midfield.
Up front Saoirse Farrelly conducted the pace of play and gave St Colmcille’s endless problems. She was helped by strong running from Aoife Burns and Aoife Smith on the wings and the inside trio of Gemma Galligan, Emma Reversat and Aideen O’Neill were out on front and created multiple options for the half forwards and midfield.
It was Aideen’s shot in the first half that ricocheted off the crossbar for Emma Reversat to score the opening goal. Aideen followed this up with a point from play as did Aoife Smith. Saoirse kicked 0-4 in the first half also to bring the score at half time to 1-6 to 0-1.
Emma Healy, Ciara Gibson, Adriana Bendaraviciute, Naoise Garry and Tamara Monaghan all joined the game in the second half and added strength, pace and experience to the team.
In the second half, a superb Grace Carr point off her left foot finished off a great team move. Emma Reversat added a second goal halfway through the half and Emma Healy finished off the goal scoring for the year with 5 minutes to go. St Colmcille’s added 1-2 to their scoreline in the last five minutes including an unstoppable penalty kick, but it was too little too late.
It was a great result for our ladies as they were missing Niamh McKenna and Saoirse Smith for the final, both having contributed hugely in the earlier games.
Captain Eimer Delaney accepted the cup on behalf of the team and rounded off the year on a brilliant high for the club.
