U-13’s got their campaign under way with a great win
Oldcastle 3-10 Nobber 3 -5
A wet Nobber was the venue for the first round of the U-13 FL played Friday (11th September,2015) where Oldcastle got their campaign under way with a great win.
The conditions lead to some misplaced passes and handling errors early on put Pearse Sheridan grabbed the first 2 points of the game, one of which was a free. Nobber replied with a well taken goal. Nobber added a further point before James McCluskey finished to the net. Aaron Ward was in great form in defence winning a lot of ball and cutting out numerous attacks and was well supported by DJ Monaghan who had moved from half forward to half back as Oldcastle defence started to get on top. Jack Murphy was winning good ball in the half forward line and his speed was causing havoc for Nobber. Although the conditions were poor Oldcastle would be disappointed with the number of score able chances missed. The first half ended like it had started with Pearse Sheridan scoring 2 points and a Nobber goal.
The half time score was Nobber 2-2 Oldcastle 1-5
James McCluskey hit a fine long range point to open the second half scoring. James added another before Pearse Sheridan converted. There was concern for Oldcastle when Man of the Match at that stage Aaron Ward collided with a Nobber forward. Aaron hit the floor holding his leg and after a lengthy stoppage was carried from the field. Lucky it appears to be muscular rather than anything more serious. Nobber pushed hard to get back into the game and moved their goalie to midfield. Nobber grabbed a goal but this was quickly cancelled out as James McCluskey finished to the net for the second time. Nobber grabbed another goal but as the light faded Ryan Kevin who had come on as a half time sub finished to the net for Oldcastle 3rd goal to seal the victory.
