2 wins from 2 in the championship
Oldcastle 4-18 Curraha 0-12
The lads made it 2 wins from 2 in a sunny Pairc Tailteann on Thursday evening (14/8/2025). It was Curraha who opened the scoring of the IFC Rd.2 game in the 2nd minute but this was cancelled out by a Paddy Rahill score after some great work by Tom Lynch. Curraha added another before Paul Hennessy caught the ball in the middle of the park and played it to Rory Crawley who tapped it over.
Steven Lawless was getting involved in a lot of the play and went on several trips into the other half. Lee Healy added another after a pin point cross field ball from Paddy Rahill split the defence in half. Curraha were awarded a free after the ball was touched on the ground and their reward was a converted 2 pointer. By this stage Oldcastle could have had three goals but the opening major came in the 18th minute when Oran Mulvanny charged forward and fired to the net. After all the chances we hadn’t to wait too long for the 2nd goal as Lee Healy danced around the keeper to finish to the net. Paddy Rahill left the field due to injury and was replaced by Garrett O’Reilly.
At stages of the first half the play was very stop and go as the Curraha physio made several trips on to the field to treat injuries. Curraha added 2 points before Oran Mulvanney won the high ball in midfield. After some good play the ball found it way back to Oran who tapped it over off his left. With the hooter not in action this evening, all eyes were on the referee when yet another goal chance went a begging before Garrett O’Reilly fired over with the last kick of the 1st half to leave the half time score Oldcastle 2-06 Curraha 0-8.
Paul Hennessy opened the scoring in the 2nd half before the ever reliable Steven Lawless joined Paddy Rahill on the injury bench and was replaced by Cian McPartland. James Cooke and Pat Crawley combined well before Pat was hauled to the ground. The ref awarded the free and Pearse Sheridan made no mistake splitting the posts. Curraha who lost their 1st game v Longwood were battling hard to keep their championship hopes alive but when Jason Scully raced through the defence to fire Oldcastle’s third goal, the gap was starting to grow on the scoreboard.
For the second time in the game full back Dylan Garrigan found himself in the opposition’s penalty box but the ball just wouldn’t go into the net. Pat Crawley who had worked very hard during the game was replaced by Ryan Halpin who was making his championship debut. Curraha were still looking dangerous, but any chance of a comeback ended when Jason Scully found the net for his second goal! The score of the match came late on as Paul Hennessy found himself outside the arc and made no mistake with a fine two-pointer off his left foot. As darkness fell around Pairc Tailteann, Lee Healy finished the scoring with a point in injury time.
The attention now turns to Longwood in the final round.
