An impressive second half performance powered Oldcastle to victory
Oldcastle 3-14 Syddan 1-9
A solid performance by the handsome Oldcastle fifteen this evening meant there was no need for last minute drama or robberies! The pitch at Moynalty was immaculate, and the weather just perfect, as this second round of the Intermediate Championship throw-in (27 August 2021).
Both teams were evenly matched in the first half: taking score for score, a Jason Scully free right before the break just giving Oldcastle the edge on a score of 1-06 to Syddan’s 1-05.
Syddan took the first two points of the second-half to edge ahead again, but that was to be their last time in the lead. A lovely goal from the boot of Colin Hawdon was followed by a point from the same boot, Jason Scully then adding another two.
Pearse Sheridan and CJ Healy sent over points of their own before the hardworking Ronan Maguire fired in Oldcastle’s third goal and killed off any Syddan chance of a comeback. Garrett O’Reilly was having a great match and added another point, while Oldcastle veteran Paddy Gilsenan took the last score of the match.
Two wins out of two leaves the lads comfortably into the Quarter-Finals, with the Walterstown match still to come
