New housing development at Millbrook!
As you may know, Oldcastle Gfc are developing a Biodiversity Garden Journey around the outskirts of our new juvenile pitch and walking track at Millbrook. The planting will all be designed to encourage and feed our native animals, birds and insects. We will also be including habitats for local wildlife: bat boxes, bird boxes, bird feeders, hedgehog houses and bug hotels will all be part of the real estate, as well as compost heaps which will be populated by insects, worms, mites and invertebrates.
We would like to invite all our club families to become part of this project by making a bird box, bird feeder, bat box or hedgehog house of your own to be included in the garden. There are loads of plans online, just google it and pick the design that you like! This will be a great fun carpentry project for your family to get through the winter months! If you wish to make more than one work away!
The completed bird boxes can also be painted in bright colours: we are aiming for a colourful Kinsale town type look for our bird villages, and they will brighten the garden up in the winter time! We will be hanging them individually in trees and also grouped together also. The bat boxes and hedgehog houses are best left unpainted and unobtrusive.
We would love every family to get involved with this fun project, and will have a day next Spring when they are all brought to Millbrook. In the meantime, please send in a photo of your children with their creations as you make them, and we’ll share them on the page! Whatsapp to 087-9656076. Please take care with the carpentry, and good luck!
Keep safe and continue to look out for each other
