Oldcastle U-12’s retain the Spring League Cup!
The U-12’s travelled to Sean Newman Park, Bohermeen in an attempt to retain their Spring Football Group F League title, and did so with ease. Lining out against Carnaross on this gorgeous evening (Friday, 22 June 2018), Adam Smith was first on the board within a minute. Ryan Halpin followed with a lovely score, with Rory Crawley adding the next. Padraig Lynch never gave his man a minute’s peace, and it was his interception that won the next ball and supplied Adam with another lovely score. Pat Crawley was likewise dogged and playing out of his skin. Paul Hennessy was at the end of a nice Ryan Halpin pass for Oldcastle’s fifth score. Rory added another, while brother Pat took the next, with a fine shot in from a sideline ball way down the field. Soon after, Adam Smith gave the ball a lovely little chip in to Alex Curren, who was waiting in just the right spot in front of the net for a lovely score.
Oldcastle were cruising now, and Tom Lynch added another before the break, at half time it was Oldcastle 9, Carnaross 2.
The second half began with Paul Hennessy scoring with the first kick of the ball. Carnaross tried to fight back, but were finding it hard to get the ball past the fantastic Oldcastle midfield combination of Rory and Paul, and when they did defence was rock-solid. Both Jack Smith and Rhys Walsh minded the goals for a time, and were impassable, while Jack also impressed out-field. James Gibney and Thomas Sheridan were fortress-like, and Padraig Lynch’s man couldn’t move an inch all match. Oliver Hjert had some fine moves, always moving the ball forward. Tom Lynch and Ryan Halpin both had great matches and took some lovely scores, while Mark Cadden impressed as always and Adam Smith was lethal up front, scoring at will. Overall this was a fine team performance, the ball moving freely at all times, and some excellent skills on display.
Huge well done to this talented group of footballers. Rory Crawley, James Gibney, Adam Smith and Tom Lynch all played in the U-14 final on Tuesday night, while Paul Hennessy is on his third final of the week, having also played in the U-14 final, and then with the Kilsyre/Gael Colmcille hurlers in their final last night! A nice case of third time lucky!
And to all the lads on the panel, each and every one of you did Oldcastle proud out there this evening, and this Cup is well deserved! Well done also to injured U-14 player Rian Mulvanny who did a great job as umpire, and to Ben Sorohan and Lucas Skelly, team members all league who just couldn’t be there tonight. And of course to Coaches Ronan Crawley, Andy Sheridan and Fergal Smith for all their time and dedication.
