Boardsmill on top in opening round

This first round championship game played in Boardsmill on Saturday evening (6 May 2017) was keenly contested from the first whistle.
Boardsmill settled quicker testing Karen Cadden in the Oldcastle goals twice in the opening minutes. The Oldcastle keeper was excellent all night and kept her team in touch throughout the game.
The home side took a 1-5 to no score lead through Maeve Murray, Paula Dorian (2) Laura Bagnall and the very effective Edel Guy who grabbed 1-1. Oldcastle rallied in the final minutes of the half with points from Áine Bennett and Emma Healy.
The second period was a much closer affair with Oldcastle challenging with points from Sarah O’Reilly Sinead Coyle (2) Aine Benentt and substitute Brigetta Lynch. Boardsmill responded with scores from Paula Dorian and Caroline Quinn but squandered numerous clear cut goal chances throughout the second half.
The winners were best served by Susan Kealey, Cliona Murray and Emma Troy while Karen Cadden was best for Oldcastle
