Castletown into final
Castletown 0-16 Oldcastle 1-9
Oldcastle started well with opening scores from Robert Farrelly and Cj Healy within the first five minutes of the game. Castletown soon levelled things with two of their own from play. Paddy Rahill sent over his first of the game which was cancelled out by another Castletown point.
After ten minutes the sides were level with three points apiece but this was as good as it got for Oldcastle. Castletown began to pull away adding another three before Healy hit the target again for Oldcastle. The sides traded scores as Rahill sent over another following a free on Healy. Castletown hit over one more before the break and left three between the sides.
Eoin Gilsenan was first off the mark after the break to reduce the deficit, but this was short lived as Castletown sent over two more of their own.
Robert Farrelly then netted for Oldcastle following great work up the field from Cian McPartland and Niall Mangan. Gilsenan then added his second after winning the breaking ball and working up the field.
Conor McHugh pulled off a great save to deny Castletown their goal opportunity. Castletown were not about to let this slip away, however, as they added another three to Healy’s one.
With five minutes left on the clock Oldcastle were down two points but Conor McHugh stepped up and converted a 50 to leave the minimum between the sides. That was Oldcastle’s last score of the game, however and Castletown added three more to leave four between them at the final whistle.
Good work from Niall Mangan, Eoin Gilsenan, Cian McPartland, Gerard Reidy and Oran O’Reilly on the night.
