Goals galore in exciting win over Curraha
Oldcastle 4-11 Curraha 2-14
With Oldcastles showing true form in Millbrook on Friday evening (17 June 2016), nothing short of an entertaining game was produced with the result in the favour of Oldcastle (AFL Div 3 Rd.9 ) . The home side got the dream start as Cj Healy was there to aid a Niall Mangan shot into the back of the net in the opening minutes. Curraha hit back with two of their own to get into the game, but Healy kept the Oldcastle advantage by sending over another.
The work ethic of the Oldcastle forwards was proving dominant as Stephen Tierney added another. The sides traded scores as they entered the second quarter with Robert Farrelly and Paddy Rahill adding their first of the game. Curraha added another to reduce the deficit but this was short lived following trojan work from Eoin Gilsenan. Gilsenan’s shot was on target and he netted Oldcastle’s second. With five minutes to go Curraha hit over two more, but it wasn’t enough as Rahill, Mangan and Rory McHugh converted leaving five between the sides entering the break.
The second proved just as good as the first with both sides fighting for the win. With Reidy winning an Oldcastle Kickout in the early stages of the second half, and working with Paddy Gilsenan and Niall Mangan to attack, Healy then sent over his second.
A great turn over in defence by Cian McPartland and again great work by Eoin Gilsenan up the field, Healy was there to fist in Oldcastle’s third. A Curraha point was cancelled out by a Paddy Gilsenan point from play.
Currraha began to build as they added 1-01 within five minutes. Farrelly added his second before Curraha hit once again. A good goal by Niall Mangan in the closing stages of this game looked to be enough to gain the win yet Curraha kept the pressure on and added three more to Rahill’s converted free. Oldcastle had done enough to ensure they kept the lead and finished 3 points clear of Curraha.
A great performance from all of Oldcastle with best displays from Eoin Gilsenan, Niall Mangan and Cj Healy.
