2nd win for U-14’s this evening in Nobber

The U-14’s made it 2 wins from 2 outings this evening (4 April 2016) in the U-14 FL Div.6 game played in Nobber.
Oldcastle who were without the injured Conor Smith, missed a number of chances early on before Nobber opened the scoring with a point. This was followed by a goal for the home side before DJ Monaghan opened the scoring for Oldcastle and this was followed by a Pearse Sheridan brace to settle the lads. Nobber grabbed a second goal which was cancelled out by a Pearse Sheridan shot to the net. Nobber were pushing hard to add more scores but Colin Halpin, Aaron Ward and Conor Boylan were in very good form in defence. Oldcastle had a number of bad wides and 4 balls dropped into the goalies hands before James McCluskey found his range and added 2 points. Nobber were clean through on goal late in the first half, but Ross McCann made a brilliant save to deny what looked to be certain score. The half time score was Nobber 3-3 Oldcastle 1-8.
Oldcastle started the second half brightly and Darren Connell opened the scoring. This was followed by a James McCluskey goal. Colin Halpin continued to be outstanding in defence and as was Mark Coyle who had changed to full back. James McCluskey was now starting to take control around midfield and added another 2 points. Nobber added 2 point to keep Oldcastle within touching reach. The game was now been played at a very high tempo and both sides were giving it their all which was leading to a very exciting game. Nobber grabbed a goal to bring them right back into contention. As the clock was ticking down it both sides nervously tried to get the all important score but at the same time were afraid of conceding. James McCluskey won the ball about 20 yards from goals and took on the Nobber defence and finished to the net for his second score. Oldcastle were now 3 points ahead but knowing a goal with bring the game to a draw with minutes left. Following great work by Mark Coyle and Darren Connell the ball found its way to DJ Monaghan who scored the security point to seal the win.
