U-14’s start their FL campaign with a win in Athboy
Oldcastle 1-15 Clann na nGael 0-6
The U-14’s defeated Clann na nGael this evening (31 March 2016) in their Rd.1 game of the FL (Div.6) played in Athboy.
The result was never in doubt as the under 14s opened their league campaign with a win in Athboy. The game was played at 13 a side as this was all that the home side could field.
Playing against the breeze and up the hill Oldcastle missed a couple of chances before Clan na Gael opened the scoring. That would be the only time they would be in front as Oldcastle started to convert chances. The half time score was Clann na nGael 0-3 Oldcastle 0-13.
At that stage Oldcastle emptied the bench and it was great to see the younger players doing so well. Oldcastle’s goal was their last score and this was finished to the net by James McCluskey. Best for the winners were Mark Coyle, Darren Connell and Ross McCann.
Oldcastle: Ross McCann, Conor Smith, Aaron Ward, Jack Murphy, Ben Grey, Colin Halpin, James McCluskey 1-1, Darren Connell 0-8, Conor Gibbons, Pearse Sheridan 0-4. Mark Coyle 0-1, James Tuite, Dj Monaghan 0-1
Subs: Darren Kavanagh, Conor Boylan, Sean Chatten, Haroldis Berzonskis, Ryan Kevin, Matthew Cahill, Jp Purcell, Brian Hetherton
