Winning start for the U-14’s in the Summer FL

Oldcastle 4-9 Moynalty \ Carnaross 1-11
Everyone in attendance would have been forgiven if they thought this was a “Winter League” as heavy rain decided to fall just as the players entered the field for the U-14 Summer FL (Rd.1) played in Millbrook (21st June 2016)
The conditions were very hard for both sides but it was Oldcastle that adapted best and had a number of early goal chances with Ryan Kevin and Conor Boylan unlucky not to find the net. Darren Connell opened the scoring and this was cancelled out by a converted free for the visitors. Ryan Kevin and Pearse Sheridan added a point each before Moynalty\Carnaross started to take a grip on the game. The visitors were rewarded with a goal which was followed by another converted free.

Oldcastle were lucky that that was all that they conceded and this was hugely down to great work by Conor Boylan and Pearse Sheridan who tracked back and helped out their defence on several occasions.
In a low scoring first half the score at the break was Oldcastle 0-3 Moynalty \ Carnaross 1-2.

Pearse Sheridan continued to play well and grabbed the first two scores of the half. James McCluskey grabbed Oldcastle’s first goal which put the home side ahead for the first time. This was followed by a Mark Coyle shot which dipped at the last minute and drifted to the net past the helpless goalie. Moynalty \ Carnaross were not lying down and continued to keep the score board ticking over but Captain for the evening Colin Halpin, Conor Smith and Aaron Ward ensured they were made work hard for every inch they took towards the Oldcastle goal. James McCluskey and Ryan Kevin added two more scores. With the game in the melting pot Oldcastle emptied the bench to secure victory. Sean Chatten took over in goals and Matthew Cahill, James Tuite, Ben Curran, Conor Gibbons and Darren Kavanagh entered the game with both James Tuite and Darren Kavanagh unlucky not to finish to the net.

Pearse Sheridan capped a fine performance with two late goals to seal the victory.
