Louth hold off Meath’s fight back

Louth had a lightening start to this Rd.2 Gr. B game of the Gerry Reilly U-16 FT played on Saturday afternoon in Millbrook. For the first 20 minutes of the opening half, they had the advantage of the strong wind that blew for that period. Meath did have a goal chance early on, but they had no answer for Louth who registered 6 points on trot. Meath scored their first score in the 19th min.with afree by Tom Fadden. Brian Dowling got Meath’s second point, but then Louth added 3 points to thier tally. Robert Smith pointed for Meath just before the break to reduce the gap between the sides.

On the resumption, Louth’s Joseph Quinn stretched their lead with a point. A Robert Smith goal brought meath back into the game. A Cian Brady point put Louth back up by 4 points. Meath reduced the gap with points from Tom fadden (f) and Brian Dowling.

The game was held up for 45 minutes due to a serious injury to Meath’s Shane Doherty. An ambulance arrived quickly and we wish Shane a speedy recovery.

Louth fought back with an Eoin Callaghan goal and followed up with a point (Cian Brady (f)) to go 7 up at this stage.
Meath seemed to move up a pace by the 50th minuite they had reduced the gap by a goal and a point
In the 53rd min., a converted free by Tom Fadden had just 2 between the sides. Louth’s Conor loughran pointed to put them 3 ahead again. Meath added 2 more points before the end. They had chances to at least draw, but Louth held out to claim victory.
