Goals galore as Under 14’s suffer their first defeat

Blackhall Gaels 8-6 Oldcastle 5-11

Oldcastle had the dream start with James McCluskey winning the throw in and after some quick passes James McCluskey finished to the net with only 17 seconds on the clock. Oldcastle added a couple of points including a fisted effort from James Tuite. Despite missing a couple of chances Oldcastle had 1 – 5 on the board before Blackhall Gaels opened their account with a free. This was followed by a 2 goals for Blackhall as the rule were the ball is throw up in the midfield after each goal was playing right into the taller Blackhall Gael players hands. Pearse Sheridan and Ben Grey added a goal each to leave the score Oldcastle 3-6 Blackhall Gaels 3-2 at the break.

Pearse Sheridan opened the second half scoring with an early point. Blackhall hit back with two more goals. Haroldas Berzonskis was now on in the full forward line and after winning a long ball in he finished to the net. Yet again Blackhall hit back with another goal as the game was going from end to end. Haroldas Berzonskis thought he had grabbed a second goal but his shot was into the side netting. The end of the game was as crazy as the rest with Oldcastle getting a late goal through Dj Monaghan,  but Blackhall’s 3 last scores were all goals.

Oldcastle pushed hard looking for a goal and James McCluskey was pulled to the ground as he headed towards goal. With game now 3 minutes into injury time the ref awarded a free to Oldcastle and a black card to the Blackhall defender but the chance had gone and Blackhall headed back up the M3 the happier team.

Despite the goals, One of Oldcastle best performers on the night was goalkeeper Ross McCann who prevented several more goals been scored. He was well supported by Aaron Ward and Colin Halpin who both preformed very well.
