AFL campaign finishes with victory over Dunsany

Oldcastle finished of their AFL Div 3 campaign with a strong win over Dunsany in the game played in Dunsany on Sunday morning (11 Sept.2016).  Following good work from Oldcastle, Gerard Reidy sent over the first score of the game, but Dunsany were to add two of their own to take the lead after five minutes. A brace of Oldcastle points in the first quarter, one from Paddy Gilsenan, two from Paddy Rahill and three from Stephen Tierney put Oldcastle well in front. Dunsany were quick to answer with a goal to reduce the deficit, but Oldcastle were dominant and kept a good lead going into the break on a score line of 13 points to 1-04 after a converted 45 from Conor McHugh, two more from Tierney and Eoin Gilsenan, Niall Mangan and Rahill also hitting the target.

Oldcastle were first of the mark with Jason Scully sending over his first of the game. Dunsany added two from play but these were cancelled by another point from Mangan and Scully to keep the Oldcastle advantage. Oldcastle pushed on from here with Reidy winning their kickout, Eoin Gilsenan was on hand to add to the scoresheet. Peter Monaghan added a goal for the away side which was quickly followed by another Tierney point. Entering the last quarter of the game, a clever goal by Scully left Oldcastle well in front. Within two minutes of his entrance to the game Conor Delaney had added 1-01 and it was hard to see Dunsany redeem at this stage. With Oldcastle being reduced to 14 men due to a black card, Dunsany added 1-02 in the closing minutes, but left Oldcastle with the advantage at the final whistle.
